A self-adhesive pre-cut mask set from Art Scale for a model of the Swedish Saab SK60 jet aircraft in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut to their final shape following the outlines of the canopy frames, so there is no work with a scalpel and a straightedge. The single-sided version covers the outside of the clear parts; the inner edges of the frames are touched in with a brush as needed. This is an accessory for a kit, not the model itself.
What you get from it
A frame sprayed over a pre-cut mask has a straight edge along its whole length and is symmetrical on both sides of the model. That is exactly what hand-cut tape usually fails to deliver, especially when the angled edge of the cockpit runs across the whole canopy.
The Saab SK60 is a twin-engine jet aircraft with a two-seat side-by-side cockpit, a high wing and conventional tail surfaces. It served in the Swedish Air Force for many decades in the training role and, in later versions, for further duties as well. It is marked by clean lines, a low-set fuselage and a well-glazed cockpit that you can see into from the side.
First wash the clear part in lukewarm soapy water and let it air-dry, then handle it only with tweezers. Lay the mask down exactly along the outline of the frame and press the edge home with a blunt toothpick along its whole length. Cover the open glazed areas with tape or masking fluid. Spray several thin coats with a pause between them; it pays to spray the edge of the mask with clear varnish first, which seals it. Lift the masks shortly after the paint has dried, pulling at an angle along the surface rather than straight up.
The package contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
