A set of die-cut masking stencils for a model of the Sea Hawk Mk 100/101 in 1:48 scale. The stencils are laid on before spraying and removed once the paint has dried.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Sea Hawk was a British single-seat carrier-borne jet aircraft of the 1950s, recognizable by its bifurcated exhaust ducts emerging on the sides of the fuselage behind the wing. The Mk 100 and Mk 101 versions went to the Marineflieger, the German naval air arm, and differed from the British machines in equipment. The cockpit of an aircraft like this is clearly visible once the build is done, so sharp framing of the glazing matters a great deal.
Masking stencils for a model in 1:48 scale. They are already die-cut from self-adhesive masking material and follow the framing of the glazing, so you only peel them off the backing sheet and lay them on the part. That does away with laboriously tracing the framing of the glazing with tape and cutting with a scalpel directly on the finished model, where a clear part is easily scratched. The manufacturer's instructions show the extent of the set and the placement of the individual pieces.
Stick the stencils onto dry, degreased glazing before spraying, never onto a finished coat. Press the edges down with the blunt tip of a toothpick so that paint cannot creep underneath. Apply the paint in thin coats; a heavy coat tears as it comes off and leaves a ragged edge. Once dry, lift the stencil with the tip of a scalpel and pull it away at a shallow angle so as not to scratch the clear part.
For anyone who wants sharp, straight cockpit framing without lengthy masking with tape. The package contains only masking stencils; a kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
