Skis in 1:48 scale from the maker Hauler are a diorama accessory for winter scenes, not a kit and not a model. They serve as a prop leaned against a wall, loaded on a vehicle or put down beside a figure.

A small accessory for building dioramas in 1:48 scale. It is not a model or a kit of a vehicle: they are skis, that is, a prop you set into a scene so that it looks lived in and credible. It is details like these that decide whether a diorama looks like a scene or merely like a model standing on a piece of base. The maker is the Czech firm Hauler, which alongside photo-etched sets prepares a whole range of diorama items.
A winter scene is easy to build, but without a human dimension it stays empty. Skis leaned against the wall of a building, laid on the bed of a truck or dropped beside a track in a snowdrift say more about what is happening than another layer of snow. They count in scenes from a mountain or Nordic setting, by rural buildings, at field posts and in civilian winter scenes. They also work as an unobtrusive guide for the eye: lay them at an angle to the main object and the viewer's gaze will slide along them exactly where you want it.
First wash the parts in warm water with detergent and let them dry out thoroughly - paint holds poorly on a greasy surface. A thin coat of primer follows. In this scale wood is not done by drawing growth rings but by shade: a light ocher base, a brown wash into the hollows and a gentle pass with a dry brush. Bring out the metal fittings and the bindings with a dark steel paint. Setting them into the base is handled by a drop of super glue and then modeling snow or white paste drawn around the contact area, so that the skis do not look stuck on from above.
This is a diorama accessory, not a kit. The base, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
