Big Ed is a bundled package from the Czech manufacturer Eduard: it brings several of its separately sold accessory sets for one particular model together into a single whole. This bundle is intended for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire F Mk.XVIII in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft, as the base model has to be owned separately. Big Ed bundles usually combine photo-etched parts for the interior and the exterior with other accessories from the same manufacturer, so with one purchase you cover most of the upgrades available for a model.
The Spitfire F Mk.18 belongs to the last generation of Spitfires with the Rolls-Royce Griffon V12. Compared with the wartime versions it received a strengthened airframe, a stronger undercarriage and a greater fuel load; the recognition marks of late Spitfires are a longer nose with bulged valve cover fairings and a tall fin. The version came about after the end of the war and served mainly in overseas areas; it also existed in a reconnaissance form with cameras in the fuselage. For a modeler it is the variant on which you can see how far the design of the Spitfire moved in ten years of development.
Cut the photo-etched parts off the fret with a sharp knife against a hard surface and dress the cuts with a fine file or a sanding stick, so that no sharp burr is left. Make the bends over a metal edge or in a photo-etch bending tool, never with your fingers, as the sheet will otherwise wave. The color printed parts must not be sanded or coated with an aggressive thinner, as the print would be damaged. They are bonded with super glue applied with the tip of a wire, and on larger surfaces a thin glue for photo-etched parts also works well. Degrease the sheet before gluing. The parts that are to be painted deserve a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint chips during handling.
The bundle is an accessory, not a kit of an airplane. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
