Aires 1:48 Spitfire Mk.I control surfaces is a resin set of control surfaces for a plastic kit of the Spitfire. It replaces the rudders and the flaps with castings in a deflected position.

The set from the Czech manufacturer Aires in 1:48 scale replaces the control surfaces of a plastic kit of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I fighter aircraft with castings in casting resin. It is not a kit of the aircraft but an aftermarket accessory. The base model is obtained separately.
The rudders, the elevators and the ailerons tend to be cast in one piece with the supporting surface in a kit, so the model stands in an absolutely neutral position and looks static. Separate resin control surfaces make it possible to build a model with the surfaces deflected, as a parked aircraft with slack controls looks. At the same time a resin casting tends to have finer ribbing and fabric covering, which is always somewhat lost in plastic. The set is made for 1:48 scale; try the parts out dry before building, because the individual molds of the Spitfire differ in dimensions.
First wash the castings in warm water with detergent because of the release agent from the mold. Cut the original surfaces out of the kit with a saw or a cutter and level the cut carefully with a file - the whole result rests on the straightness of the cut. Glue resin with cyanoacrylate super glue or with epoxy. Choose the deflection sparingly and to the same logic on both halves, or the model will look unnatural. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. Once glued in, go over the seams with putty, spray a base coat and only then paint; the fabric covering will stand out after a light dark wash.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
