A sheet of masks for the cockpit of the Spitfire Mk IX, 1:48. The glazing can be covered from both sides and two circular markings sprayed. The shape corresponds to the ICM model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX came about as a fast answer to the German Fw 190 and became the most widespread version of the whole family. Its windscreen is tall, with flat armored glass in the middle, and it is exactly through it that everyone looking at a finished model from close up looks. Behind that glass lies the instrument panel, on which a modeler usually expends a fair amount of work.
When the frames of the windscreen are oversprayed only from the outer side, the inner edges stay transparent and the panel behind them sinks into indefinite gloom. An inner mask removes this defect: the frame is dark inside, the glass clean and the instruments on the panel stay visible.
The package carries two glazing masks solved for the outer as well as the inner face and a pair of masks for the national markings, that is the circular cockades of the Royal Air Force. Both are cut by machine into self-adhesive film that follows the rounding of the sliding part of the canopy.
The recommended order of work starts with the interior, continues with the inner face of the frames and ends with the camouflage on a finished fuselage. Removing the mask only after the finish has dried guarantees a sharp edge without burrs.
The Nine was built in enormous numbers and served from Malta through Normandy as far as the Far East, so the choice of finishes is wide. Sprayed circles give freedom even where carrier film would have to go across pronounced riveting or across the edge of the wing.
The sheet is cut to the model of the ICM brand in this scale. Neither the aircraft itself nor paints are part of the delivery.
