A set of masks for the cockpit glazing of the Spitfire Mk IX fighter in 1:48 scale. Cut to the ICM model, it holds framing for the outer and the inner side.
Responsibility details are not available.
When German machines with radial engines appeared over the English Channel, the British fighters that had been successful until then lost their advantage at altitude overnight. The solution was to combine the existing airframe with a Merlin engine that had a two-stage two-speed supercharger. What began as a stopgap turned out so well that it became the most numerously built version of the whole family and served on every battlefield from Malta to Burma. Its recognition features are the twin exhausts of six stubs each and a slightly lengthened nose. The wing designation with the letter c means the universal arrangement of mountings, which allowed machine guns to be combined with cannon according to the nature of the task.
The glazing has a side sliding section, a fixed rear canopy and a framed windscreen with a flat armored plate. Together that is more than a dozen frames of varying width, and it is their unevenness that makes masking by hand slow. The die-cut parts of this set have their width derived straight from the molding, so after spraying a regular grid of frames arises with no corrections by brush afterwards.
We recommend applying them only over a matured base coat, otherwise the surface layer may be pulled up as they are removed. It pays to cover the inside of the fuselage as well, so that overspray does not reach the seat and the instrument panel through the open cockpit.
