A set of masking films for the cockpit glazing of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb fighter in 1:48. It holds two pre-cut templates: the outer one follows the frames of the canopy and the windscreen, the inner one closes the panes from the opposite side. The cut matches the kit by the brand Airfix. The set deals with the glazing exclusively.

The Mk V was built in greater numbers than any other version of this fighter. It came about fairly prosaically: a stronger Merlin 45 engine with a single-stage supercharger was built into the airframe of the previous variant, and the letter b after the designation meant a wing with two 20 mm cannon and four 7.7 mm machine guns. In this form the aircraft carried the main weight of the fighting over the English Channel in 1941 and 1942, defended Malta and, in the desert form with a bulky filter under the nose, served in North Africa. At the same time it became the first Spitfire to be given a serious rival: against the Fw 190A it fell behind at high speed, and it was the experience of those encounters that speeded up the development of further versions.
The cockpit of the Mk V is among the tighter ones and its frames are slender. Cutting strips of masking tape by hand therefore leads to lines of unequal width that are obvious at first glance after spraying. Pre-cut film gets around that problem, because all the frames are machine-cut and have the same width along their whole length. Before applying it pays to clean the glazing with a cotton swab moistened in clean water and let it dry completely, so that the film holds even in the tight curve of the sliding section.
