A masking set for a model of the fighter Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb in 1:48 scale, intended for the kit from the Tamiya firm.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb was a British single-seat fighter of the Second World War, and the Mk.V was one of the most numerously built versions of the whole series. The letter B in the designation refers to the type of wing with two 20 mm cannon and four machine guns. Czechoslovak fighter squadrons in the Royal Air Force flew Spitfire Mk.V machines as well.
A masking set for the Spitfire Mk.Vb in 1:48 scale, intended for the kit from the Tamiya firm. The extent of the masking and which piece belongs where are stated in the manufacturer's instructions; plan the set out according to them before sticking it on.
The masks are stuck onto a finished, clean and degreased surface before spraying, not after the paint has dried. Press every piece down all the way around, so that no paint runs under the edge; on glazed areas it helps to run the blunt tip of tweezers or a toothpick along the edge. Spray in thin layers, because heavily sprayed paint likes to flake off when a mask is removed. Take the mask off while the paint is dry to the touch and not yet fully cured, and draw it back at an angle over itself, not straight upward.
The set suits modelers who want sharp boundaries between the color areas without the laborious cutting of masking tape, and it saves time mainly on repeating shapes. You do not need any special tools to work with it; tweezers and a sharp point will do. The kit, the paints, the glue and thinner are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
