A sports bicycle in 1:48 scale is a diorama accessory, not a kit. Propped against a wall or dropped by a road, it gives a civilian scene life.
Responsibility details are not available.
This part is a stand-alone object of a scene, not a model of a vehicle. The subject is a sports bicycle, that is a lighter type with dropped handlebars and a slim frame, which differs from the heavy men's and women's bicycles in the same line of accessories. In 1:48 scale it is a small and delicate object that works in a scene as a yardstick of scale and also as a pretext for a story: somebody left the bicycle somewhere, so somebody is here.
A bicycle suits civilian street scenes, country buildings, stations, workshops and gas stations. It looks best propped against a wall, a fence or a rack, because a bicycle standing on its own without support looks unconvincing. It also works well laid on its side in grass or in a ditch. If you stand it next to a figure, make sure the height of the frame matches the person; it is exactly from that pairing that a viewer reads the scale of the whole diorama.
A bicycle is among the most delicate diorama parts, so work with it carefully and put it down on a soft surface. After washing and drying, clean up the parting marks carefully, and with the thin parts of the frame rather less than more. Lay the base color down in a thin coat, as a thick coat would flood the fine detail. Spray the frame in a saturated shade, paint in the saddle and the grips with a brush with a fine point and suggest the metal parts with silver or steel paint applied only to the tops of the shapes. The rims and spokes show best when you draw a dark wash over them once dry and wipe the excess off. Glue the bicycle to the base with cyanoacrylate glue at the point of support, not by the wheels.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and a base for the diorama are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
