A resin accessory from the Czech manufacturer Plus Model in 1:48 scale. A square stone fountain is a classic dominant feature of European squares and village greens; on a diorama it will create the natural center of an urban scene, around which the action plays out: a column driving past, soldiers resting or civilian life.
For centuries fountains provided towns and villages with water for their inhabitants and their livestock, and their stone basins adorn historic centers to this day. During the war years they served soldiers as well, for watering horses, washing and topping up radiators. A fountain on a diorama therefore naturally joins the architecture with the figures and the equipment and gives the scene a civilian, lived-in dimension that provides a contrast to wartime subjects.
Wash the casting free of the mold release agent and sand any casting marks down. Treat the stone with gray and sand tones with a wash in the joints; smooth the edges of the basin with drybrushing. You can create the water surface with gloss varnish or with crystal clear resin; greenish algae below the surface and damp patches on the stone are striking. The fountain comes into its own best on a paved base, for instance in combination with paving from the same manufacturer.
