A diorama accessory of the Hauler brand: a set of stone bollards, or posts, in 1:48 scale. A bollard is an inconspicuous but very rewarding feature - in a real setting it bounds entrances, protects the corners of buildings from the wheels of vehicles and lines embankments or the edges of roads. That is precisely why it gives a scene an immediate sense of scale and of a real place. It is not a model of a vehicle or an aircraft; the number of pieces in the package is stated on the box of the set.
The bollards can be used along the whole length of the edge of a base, where they naturally close the scene off without drawing attention away from the main model. They work splendidly in embankment and harbor scenes, at entrances to yards and in building narrowed passages through which a vehicle has to weave. Two or three toppled and scuffed pieces tell a story on top of that - a mark left by an impact does more for believability than another clean detail.
First set the bollards out dry and note their positions, and only then glue them, so that the spacing works out. Paint stone from a gray base with an admixture of brown and distinguish the individual pieces with slightly different shades - nowhere in nature are two of them the same. Draw out the edges and the scuffed places by dry brushing, and let a dark wash run to the foot and into the cracks. Low down near the ground add pigment, which optically joins the bollard to the surface of the road; a sharp divide between an accessory and the ground is the most common mistake that gives a scene away.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue, a base and further diorama material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
