The real subject

The Su-27K is the carrier form of the Soviet Su-27 fighter, later listed under the designation Su-33. Compared with the land-based version it received folding wings to save room in the hangar, additional horizontal surfaces ahead of the wing, strengthened landing gear and an arrestor hook, without which there is no landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier. Machines of this type flew from the deck of the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, for whose air group the version came about.

What the set offers

Photo-etched parts sharpen up the places where the thickness of plastic gets in the way: thin surfaces, grilles and small elements that cannot be captured by injection into a mold. The extent of the set and the procedure for fitting the individual parts are given by the instructions enclosed in the package; from those you will tell what has to be removed or sanded off the kit in advance.

How photo-etched metal is worked

• The parts are held on thin tabs in the carrier fret, so cut them off with a sharp knife on a hard surface and do not break them out.
• Make the bends along the marked score line, best in a bending tool or between the jaws of flat pliers.
• They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as cement for plastic models does not work on metal.
• Degrease the parts before painting and lay a base coat on, otherwise the paint holds poorly on smooth metal.
• Hold the small parts with tweezers and work over a surface they can be picked up from.

The set of photo-etched parts itself is supplied. The model of the aircraft, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
