A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of a model of the Su-27K carrier fighter in 1:48 scale from Art Scale. It is not a model or decals but an aid for a build. The double-sided version means that the set allows for masking the outer and the inner side of the clear parts. The framing can thus be sprayed in the interior color from inside and in the final finish from outside, which is useful above all when the modeler leaves the cockpit canopy raised. The masks are cut to the outline of a particular kit and will not fit a kit from another manufacturer.
The Su-27K is the carrier variant of the Soviet heavy fighter of the Su-27 family, later designated Su-33 and known in Western terminology under the reporting name Flanker. It differs from the land-based version in design changes for operation from an aircraft carrier, that is, folding outer wing panels and folding tips of the horizontal tail, strengthened landing gear, an arrestor hook under the rear fuselage and a retractable probe for in-flight refueling. Unlike the basic Su-27 it also carries canard foreplanes, which improve handling at the low speeds of a deck approach. The aircraft is intended for air defense of a naval formation.
Degrease the clear part and let it dry completely. Lift the masks off the sheet with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, seat them from one edge and push the air out. With the large hinged canopy, work slowly so that the mask does not wrinkle. Go over the edges with a wooden toothpick. The recommended order is the framing in the interior color from inside first, then the base coat and finally the top finish. Lay the paint on in thin coats so that no step forms at the edge. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, pulling back at an acute angle over themselves, and wipe adhesive residue away with lukewarm water.
It is a supplementary set of masks, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
