A set of painting masks for a model of the Sukhoi Su-33 carrier fighter. It is not a model of an airplane, but an accessory that deals with one particular part of the build: a clean separation of the clear cockpit canopy from the sprayed frames. The masks are cut to the outline of the parts and are stuck straight onto the clear part, so the time-consuming cutting of masks out of tape is avoided. Because a mask is cut precisely to a particular molding, the manufacturer makes several versions of the set for this subject according to the base kit. This one is cut for the Su-33 kit from the manufacturer Minibase and need not fit another kit of the same airplane exactly.
The Sukhoi Su-33 is a single-seat carrier fighter derived from the Su-27. For operating from a ship's deck it received strengthened landing gear, an arrester hook, folding panels of the wing and the stabilizer, and foreplanes ahead of the wing. The power is provided by two afterburning turbofan engines. The cockpit has a large one-piece hinged canopy with a front transition into the fuselage, that is exactly the kind of glazing where a hand-painted frame on a model shows at first glance.
Wash the clear part in lukewarm soapy water before masking and let it dry completely, because a mask does not hold on a greasy surface and the paint runs under it. Take the masks off the backing with pointed tweezers, lay them on the part and press them down with a soft stick from the center toward the edges; on a curved canopy work in sections and press the edges down carefully. Cover the areas that the set leaves open with masking tape; cut the tape on a surface, not directly on the clear part, where the blade would leave a groove. Spray thin coats, the first in the shade of the cockpit interior and only then the exterior color. Take the mask off while the paint is still fresh, pulling it back over itself at a sharp angle.
The set contains only painting masks. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
