1:48 Su-35S ADVANCED kabuki masks

Masking set 1:48 Su-35S, ADVANCED level (New Ware)

Pre-cut masks in 1:48 scale from the Czech brand New Ware, made in soft kabuki-type masking film. The material adapts well to curved surfaces, holds on an edge and leaves no adhesive residue on the model when taken off. The set belongs to the ADVANCED level, that is, to the middle level of extent that the brand distinguishes among its masks.

What the BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT levels mean

The level designation says nothing about how difficult the set is to use, only about its extent. The lowest level essentially covers the canopy glazing; the higher levels add further masked elements of the model, such as wheel hubs or small areas on the airframe. The higher the level, the more work with tape the set saves you, but also the more masks there are to apply carefully. The exact content of a particular level differs from set to set; what a set masks is shown by the illustration on the packaging.

Usage tips

• Kabuki-type film takes bending well. On a slightly convex surface, press it from the center toward the edges, so that no creases form.
• Before spraying, run a fingernail or a wooden toothpick along the edge of the mask; the pressure decides the sharpness of the edge more than the kind of paint does.
• Modern gray camouflage is low in contrast. That is exactly why a sharp edge on the framing matters, otherwise the canopy visually merges with the airframe on the model.
• Take the mask off before you apply a matte clear coat, otherwise the coat works into the edge and the transition hardens.

Who the set is for

• Builders of modern jet aircraft in 1:48 scale.
• Modelers who want to mask more than just the canopy.
• Those who prefer a soft masking film to ordinary paper tape.

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
