A full-color pilot harness for the Soviet supersonic fighter-bomber Su-7, scale 1:48, with relief printing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Su-7 was created at the turn of the 1950s as a heavy machine with a strongly swept wing and a single high-thrust engine. In the fighter role it did not prove itself particularly well, but as a carrier of bombs and rockets it found use in several air arms at once; it flew in Egypt, Syria, India and Czechoslovakia, where it became the first truly capable attack aircraft of its kind. It did, however, need a long runway, and its fuel consumption was notorious, so pilots spoke of minutes over the target rather than hours of flight. The cockpit was clearly laid out but exceptionally confined, and that is exactly why every detail counts in it. For a builder this type is rewarding also because silvery surfaces meet later camouflage schemes on it.
The harness is printed in its final colors together with the fittings and carries a perceptible relief. Soviet restraint equipment had a characteristic arrangement of shoulder straps of its own, which differs from Western patterns, and it is precisely that difference which is clearly recognizable on a finished seat as soon as it is seated into the shell.
First finish the seat and the rear wall of the cockpit, then polish the area with gloss varnish. Move the soaked harness with a brush, straighten it to the shell and suck the excess water up with the corner of a tissue. Let the loose ends drape while the material is still setting, after which it keeps the shape by itself. Finish the seat before the whole tub. At the end, even the cockpit out with a matte overcoat.
