The Seafire is the carrier-borne version of the Spitfire, adapted for service on aircraft carriers. What sets it apart from its land-based predecessor is the arrestor hook, the folding of the wings and landing gear adapted to hard touchdowns onto the deck. The F.XVII version belongs among the late machines with the twelve-cylinder Griffon engine, which called for a longer and more massive nose. For a modeler it is a rewarding subject: the slender fuselage of the Spitfire meets rough naval equipment in it.
Photo-etched parts are made of thin sheet metal, so they reach a thickness that injection-molded plastic cannot imitate. In modeling, photo-etched metal is what seat belts, instrument panels, covers, grilles and other small items with sharp edges are dealt with. The set is prepared for 1:48 scale and only completes a kit. Which parts this particular item contains and where they belong on the model is shown by the instructions of the manufacturer.
The parts are held on the fret by small tabs, which are cut through with a sharp blade on a hard surface. Do not cut them with pliers, as the thin sheet metal will buckle. Make the bends along the marked lines, best of all in a bender. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minute amount, for example with the tip of a wire. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and spray it over with a primer meant for metal, otherwise the paint will flake off during handling.
