This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale captures the British single-seat Supermarine Spitfire fighter in the Mk.Vb version. The Mk V series was the most widespread version of the Spitfire, and the recognition mark of the Vb version was the so-called B wing, that is, the mixed armament of two 20 mm cannons and four machine guns. The model therefore represents the classic form of a Royal Air Force fighter of 1941 and 1942.
The Spitfire was designed by the British engineer Reginald J. Mitchell and became one of the icons of British aviation. The Mk V version received the more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 engine and became the backbone of the RAF fighter squadrons; by the end of 1941 most units had re-equipped with it. The Spitfire Mk.Vb served on many battlefields, from the defense of Britain through the Mediterranean to North Africa. The combination of the elliptical wing, good handling and a reliable engine made it a highly valued fighter.
This is an injection-molded plastic kit, so use liquid modeling cement for plastic on the joints. Pay attention to the cockpit and to the fine landing gear details, which are best finished before the fuselage is closed. Apply a primer before the airbrush. For British fighters the typical upper camouflage and a light underside are the right choice; a gloss clear coat under the decals and a matte coat at the end will unify the look and bring out the panel lines with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
