This is not a kit but a separate decal sheet in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard of Obrnice near Most. The set is aimed at the national circular markings, the so-called roundels, for a Hawker Tempest Mk.II model. Separate sheets of national markings are popular in modeling practice because the decals enclosed with kits tend to be less saturated, to settle less well into engraving, or to have gone yellow and brittle after years in storage. The exact number and size of the individual markings on the sheet is not stated here, so check before buying that the sheet will cover the scheme you want to build.
The Hawker Tempest Mk.II differed from the better-known Mk.V version in its powerplant — instead of a liquid-cooled H-block engine it received a radial engine, which fundamentally changed the shape of the front fuselage. It reached series production only at the very end of the Second World War, so it lived out its operational career mainly after 1945. It served with the Royal Air Force outside Europe and later entered the armament of other users as well. It is precisely that postwar service which means that several different forms of national markings meet on it.
Apply the decals onto a smooth glossy surface; a matte surface under a decal creates silvery edges. Cut the sheet as close around the motif as possible. Dip the decal in water for only a few seconds and let it rest on a paper towel until the backing can be slid. Fine-tune the seating with a decal softener and press the excess water out with a cotton bud from the center to the edges. Once it has dried, varnish the whole model so that the edges of the decals are sealed, and only then apply the matte or semi-gloss final varnish.
