An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M4 Sherman medium tank in a configuration matching the mid production batch, in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. The finished model is roughly 121 mm long. Besides the plastic parts, a small photo-etched fret is also part of the package.
The Sherman was the most widespread American medium tank of the Second World War and in various conversions it served with the Allied armies as well. The basic M4 version had a welded hull, a cast turret and a 75 mm gun. The crew numbered five men and the vehicle was powered by a gasoline radial engine mounted at the rear. The running gear stood on bogies with vertical volute springs, which shows up well on the model. Vehicles from the mid production batch combined features of the early and the late ones, from the arrangement of the driver's vision ports to the shape of the front transmission cover.
Assemble and paint the bogies separately, because once the tracks are on you can no longer reach them. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue onto a degreased surface, and give them a primer before painting. Try fitting the gun dry and check that it points straight while the part can still be turned. Apply the decals over a gloss coat, and only once they have dried and had a matte coat go on to dusting and the other effects.
For the modeler who collects Allied equipment and does not want to build in a large scale. The number of parts is manageable even alongside other models in progress.
