A figure of an American paratrooper from Dynamo-Models in 1:48 scale. The designation No.1 tells the individual items on the same subject apart, and they can be put together into a shared scene. Scale 1:48 is common with aircraft models, so the figure comes into its own beside a transport aircraft or a glider, but it works just as well in a ground scene at a hedgerow, a vehicle or a Normandy farmstead.
The American airborne troops reached Normandy on the night of 5 to 6 June 1944, when the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions dropped behind Utah Beach with the task of seizing the crossings and roads inland. Because of anti-aircraft fire, cloud and flooded ground the drop was heavily scattered and many men fought their way to their objectives in improvised groups. Typical of the American paratroopers is the M1942 jump uniform with reinforced elbows and knees and large cargo pockets, a helmet with a liner and a chin strap, and the reserve parachute carried on the chest.
The jump uniform keeps to olive and khaki tones, which should be left rather faded - a new, strongly green finish reads flat in a small scale. Bring out the pockets and the seams with a thin shadow so that they are not lost. Set the webbing and the harness apart by shade, not with black. For a scene after the drop, mud effects on the trouser legs and the boots suit well, or traces of damp; Normandy country was deliberately flooded in places in June 1944. Anchor the figure in the terrain with taller grass around the boots and even the whole thing out with matte varnish.
