1:48 USAF seat belts WWII offers straps after American period practice, made up in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set reproduces the harness that pilots of American machines had in the cockpit during the Second World War, and it is prepared in 1:48 scale. It is set into the cockpit of a model under construction onto its own seat.
American wartime aircraft used a combination of a wide lap belt with a buckle and shoulder straps that ran over the backrest to an inertia reel behind the seat. The pilot could lock them before landing or a combat maneuver and otherwise lean comfortably about the cockpit with the reel released. The P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt and P-38 Lightning fighters flew with this arrangement, as did the carrier-borne F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair and the crews of the B-17 and B-24 heavy bombers.
In 1:48 scale a strap is less than a millimeter wide, so prepare smooth-jawed tweezers, good lighting and preferably magnification in advance. Finish the seat completely before you set about the harness. The belts look best when they do not run parallel: let one shoulder strap slip off the backrest to the side and open the lap belt out to the sides across the pan. The last step is a matte overcoat, which evens the sheen of the whole seat out.
