The USMC F-4B/N double-sided painting mask 1:48 (Art Scale) is a set of self-adhesive masks for the glazing of both cockpits of the Phantom. An accessory for the build, not a kit. The target kit is Academy.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of pre-cut painting masks for a model of the Phantom II in the F-4B/N version in 1:48 scale. They serve to cover the glazing while spraying, so that the frames of both cockpits come out crisp and evenly wide. This is neither a kit nor a finished model but an accessory for painting. Double-sided means that the sheet contains masks for the outside and the inside of the glazing. The cut is calculated for the Academy kit.
Wash and degrease the clear part and let it dry completely. Lift the mask out of the sheet with a scalpel or tweezers, lay it on the frame and press it down all around with a soft stick: only a well-adhered edge guarantees a crisp line. Where the mask overhangs the edge of the part, trim it to the outline with a fresh blade. Cover the remaining areas with tape. Spray several thin coats with a short flash-off between them. Lift the mask as soon as the paint is dry to the touch, pulling it away at an angle. With a double-sided set the inner side is sprayed first, in the interior shade.
The F-4B was a two-seat twin-engine carrier fighter, and the F-4N version was created from it by a service life extension program with updated avionics. Aircraft in this configuration served with both the Navy and the Marine Corps of the United States. Both sliding canopies have wide frames, and with the cockpit open their inner side is clearly visible.
The mask is an accessory, not a kit. The model, paints, glue and thinners are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
