A short-run kit of a resin model of the A/S32A-49 deck tow tractor of the kind the US Navy uses to handle aircraft. The model is a complete item in its own right, not an accessory to go inside another kit, and it is intended above all as supporting equipment beside models of carrier aircraft in 1:48 scale and for scenes on the flight deck or in a hangar.
Deck tow tractors of this kind serve to move aircraft about the flight deck and in the hangar below, to position them before takeoff and to tow them away after landing. The design is deliberately very low, so that the machine passes under the fuselage and the wings of an aircraft, while still having enough weight and pulling power to handle a fully equipped aircraft. The driver sits unprotected in an open position, because all-round visibility is what counts on a deck. It is exactly this unmistakable silhouette that makes the model a rewarding addition to an aviation scene.
This is a resin kit, so the procedure differs from plastic. Wash the parts in warm soapy water first, to rid them of mold release residue, otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife and true the surfaces up with a file; never snap them off. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, ideally in a thicker version that gives you time to position a part. Protect your airways when sanding resin and work wet. Start the painting with a primer, which holds on resin noticeably better than paint applied directly. Deck equipment tends to be heavily worn, so scuffed edges, greasy marks and dust on the underside all pay off here.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
