This is not a kit, but a decal sheet in 1:48 scale on its own. The set covers the twin-engined Lockheed Ventura in several versions — the Mk.II and GR.V used by the Royal Air Force and the naval PV-1 — in the service of the Royal Air Force, the Royal New Zealand Air Force and the South African Air Force. The sheet is intended for a plastic kit of the matching type and scale, which has to be bought separately.
The Lockheed Ventura was based on a civilian twin-engined transport aircraft and was rebuilt into a combat machine with a bomb bay and defensive armament. Committed at first as a day bomber, it proved itself mainly in the patrol and anti-submarine role over the sea, where its range and load-carrying capacity told. The PV-1 version was intended for the navy. It is exactly the broad international use — British, New Zealand and South African — that makes the type a rewarding modeling subject with unusually varied schemes and national insignia.
Apply the decals onto a smooth gloss varnish, so that no silvering appears under the film. Cut close to the edge of the printing, dip them in water only briefly and let the decal slide into place. On large areas, such as the insignia on the wings and the fuselage bands, a decal softener helps, as it pulls the film down into the engraved lines. At the end spray the whole model with a matte or semi-gloss varnish according to the type of scheme. Under light markings on a dark base it pays to spray a thin layer of white beforehand.
The package holds decals only. A kit, paints and varnishes are not included.
