A masking set 1:48 Vought F4U-1D Corsair for painting the glazing of this carrier fighter with the inverted gull wing. An accessory to a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set for masking the glazing of this American carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a model or a replacement part; it is an aid for the painting stage, when it is decided whether the cockpit will look clean. An exact list of the contents is missing from the name, so we keep to the intended use: the set belongs to the F4U-1D version.
The Corsair is recognized at once by its inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use an enormous propeller and still keep the landing gear short. The F4U-1D version received equipment for carrying bombs and rockets and turned into a universal carrier fighter of the closing stage of the war in the Pacific. Compared with the earliest batches it had a better-resolved view from the cockpit with a bulged canopy, so the framing is simpler than on the first machines, but all the more does every shortcoming show.
The dark blue naval finish is opaque and likes to emphasize any unevenness under a mask, so press the edges down properly and spray in several passes. Cover the bulged canopy in sections, not as one large area. Leave the cockpit covered during the weathering as well, because carrier machines are finished with marked traces of salt and wear. Only after removal does it pay to run clear varnish over the frames so that the transition is not noticeable to the touch.
