A die-cut masking film for the glazing of the amphibious Walrus biplane in 1:48 scale. It covers the outer side of the frames and the cut is derived from the clear parts of the Classic Airframes kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Walrus came about as a reconnaissance machine launched by catapult from the decks of British cruisers and battleships. It had a boat hull, folding wings, a pusher propeller behind the Pegasus engine and a cockpit glazed so generously that the crew could see down along the sides as well. In the end, though, it spent the war mainly as a rescuer, because air-sea rescue flights fished hundreds of downed airmen out of the Channel with it. The nickname Shagbat has stayed with it to this day, as has its reputation as a machine that flew slowly but in almost any weather.
The cockpit of this type has many narrow vertical posts. Sticking tape onto them and cutting it straight is work for long evenings and the result tends to be shaky. A die-cut shape shortens that part of the build to a few minutes and the line comes out absolutely the same on both sides of the fuselage.
The manufacturer's data speak of the outer surface of the glazing. The inside stays clear, which does not matter on a closed cockpit, but with the doors of the pilot's position open it is better to touch the frame in from inside with a brush.
Let the sprayed paint rest for at least a day and only then take the film off. Lift it at a slant to the surface, not straight away from the model. If a corner holds too well, warm it briefly with hot air from a hand dryer. It is best to spray the cockpit frame in two steps, first in the interior shade and, once that has dried, in the top camouflage, so that the inner side of the posts does not look empty.
