The Westland Lysander mask set from Omask deals with the most tiresome part of building this machine: extensive glazing with a great many narrow frames. The masks are cut from Oramask film for the Airfix A07116 kit and the builder simply peels them off, transfers them onto the clear parts and presses them down. Neither the model nor the paints are included in the package.
The Lysander was a British braced high-wing monoplane for cooperation with ground forces, designed for short takeoff and landing on meadows and field strips. It was exactly that quality that earned it its most famous chapter: night flights over the occupied continent, on which it dropped off and picked up agents on unprepared ground. The crew cabin is glazed along its whole length and the frames form a dense grid, so the glazing determines the final impression the model makes.
First wash the clear parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let them dry without wiping. Seat the mask with tweezers, press the edges down with a toothpick and check against the light whether a gap is left anywhere. Apply the paint in thin coats; one heavy coat will seep under the edge. Take the film off shortly after the paint has dried, not days later.
