A photo-etched metal fret in 1:48 scale for a model of the Yak-9T fighter. An accessory for a kit, not a kit in itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Yak-9 was a Soviet single-seat fighter of the Second World War period, built in large numbers and in a whole range of forms. The T form differs from the others in its armament: it carries a large-caliber cannon built into the engine block and firing through the propeller hub. The weapon was so long that the cockpit had to be moved back because of it, which is visible in the silhouette of the aircraft at first glance. A model of this version therefore differs from an ordinary Yak-9 in its details, and photo-etch suits it.
Photo-etch comes into its own where the real part is as thin as sheet metal and injection-molded plastic cannot reach such a thickness. These are typically radiator grilles, the instrument panel, buckles and fittings in the cockpit, or small covers and plates on the surface of the airframe. A metal fret is thin compared with plastic, the detail is etched into it crisply and it holds a shadow on the model. The extent of the fret and the list of parts are given in the instructions enclosed.
Cut the parts out with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with nippers, which will bend the metal. Make the bends over the edge of a steel ruler or in a photo-etch bender, always along the marked score and in one movement; repeated bending tires the metal and the part breaks. They are glued with super glue applied in a genuinely small amount. Before painting, degrease the surface and go over it with a base coat, otherwise the finish will not hold on smooth metal.
The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
