A masking set of kabuki tape for a model of the F-14D Tomcat in 1:48 scale. The basic form, for a clean separation of the glazing frames from the surrounding surface.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-14D was the last production version of the Tomcat carrier fighter. In this version the two-seat machine with a variable-sweep wing received more powerful turbofan engines and new cockpit equipment, so the original interceptor became a machine usable against ground targets as well. It stayed in US Navy service until the middle of the first decade of this century, and in modeling it is a perennial favorite precisely because of its shapely cockpit with its long glazing.
The set contains masking pieces for an F-14D model in 1:48 scale, cut from kabuki tape. That tape is thin, follows rounded surfaces well and on removal usually leaves no adhesive residue. The pre-cut shape saves the work that the long glazing of the Tomcat would otherwise take a whole evening.
Stick the masks onto a clean and degreased surface before spraying, not onto dried paint. Press the edges down firmly, with a wooden toothpick for instance, so that paint cannot flow underneath. Spray in thin coats and rather at right angles to the edge of the mask. Take them off soon after the paint has set and pull at an angle away from the edge, not straight up. Which kit the pieces are cut for and what their extent is should be checked in the manufacturer's instructions.
For anyone who builds the Tomcat in 1:48 scale and wants crisp glazing frames without lengthy cutting of tape. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
