The item serves to cover the places that have to stay untouched while the paint is sprayed. On a twin-engine bomber with a glazed nose that is a job only a very patient modeler manages with tape by hand, and a ready-made cut shortens it to a few minutes. The designation of the kit the shapes are adapted to stands at the end of the name.
Ilyushin's long-range bomber came about by developing the older DB-3 type. The DB-3F version was given a lengthened glazed nose and was later redesignated Il-4, while the letter T in the designation refers to the naval version able to carry a torpedo. Machines of this type flew long night raids and for most of the war they were among the most widespread Soviet bombers of all.
First rid the whole surface of fingerprints, then seat the shapes and press the corners down with a toothpick or a blunt stick. Spray the paint in several passes and let each coat flash off. On the extensive glazed nose it pays to work in sections, so that an edge does not start lifting on one side while you are working on the other.
