An unusual figure set without uniforms. A pilot, a photographer with two cameras and a woman zoologist make up a scene of the kind that played out on survey flights over the African savanna. CMK offers it in 1:72 scale. The set is intended for Special Hobby kits.
The light high-wing Do 27 first flew in the mid-1950s and became known for its exceptional short takeoff and landing qualities. That is what made it a favorite wherever prepared surfaces were missing: with geological expeditions, medical services and naturalists, who watched and photographed herds of game from it.
Civilian clothing allows more freedom than a uniform, but that is exactly why it is worth keeping a muted palette so the figures do not shout louder than the aircraft. The cameras take a black semi-matte finish with a hint of metallic sheen on the lens rings. Do not forget the small hair shades, which set the figures apart at once.
The set invites a scene on a makeshift strip in the savanna: dry grass, baggage stacked by the aircraft wheel and the cabin door open. Such a treatment is rewarding also because it does without complicated structures and keeps all the attention on the figures and the machine itself.
