1:500 Walker Machine Xabungle Greta Gull

Greta Gull from the world of Xabungle, 1:500 scale

A model of the machine listed under the name Greta Gull from the world of the series Xabungle, in 1:500 scale. Science fiction subjects have one advantage over historical equipment: nobody will compare you with a period photograph, so you can set both the color treatment and the degree of wear to suit yourself.

The real subject

Xabungle is a Japanese animated series of the 1980s whose story takes place in a harsh, sun-scorched world where people move about in massive walking machines. The Walker Machine designation in the name refers precisely to this category of equipment. Greta Gull is one of the machines of this world, and it reached the product range under a name of its own, which this model also carries.

Building and painting tips

In 1:500 scale the cleanliness of the surface decides more than the quantity of details. Sand the joins carefully and unify the surfaces with a base coat, because on large smooth panels every unevenness is visible. Separate the colors of the parts by masking, not with a brush freehand. A thin dark wash will bring the recessed seams between the panels to life, and a dry brush the edges. Then it is only a matter of deciding whether you want the machine clean as if off the screen, or dusted as it would look after a drive through the desert; with this subject both are defensible.

Who the model is for

For collectors of Japanese science fiction equipment and for modelers drawn to unconventional shapes outside the usual aviation and military categories. The extent of the package and the building procedure are given by the manufacturer in the instructions. The paints, the glue and the varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
