A printed sheet from Mark I on the subject of service in the Second World War. Besides the designation C-47, the name also carries the abbreviation R4D, under which the same aircraft was operated by the US Navy and the Marine Corps. It is printed matter on a carrier film, not a set of parts.
The twin-engined transport was the backbone of Allied air transport. It towed gliders, dropped airborne companies over Normandy and over the Netherlands, supplied units in Burma across the mountain ridges and carried the wounded to hospitals in the rear. It was precisely the combination of a roomy fuselage, reliable engines and undemanding operation from field strips that made it one of the decisive machines of the conflict.
The elements settle best onto a smooth glossy coat. Cut them right up to the printing, so that as little translucent film as possible is left, and use a soft brush to move them. With extensive areas, such as the stripes on the wing, work section by section and pierce the film with a needle if a bubble is left under it. Divide the work into several sittings, so that the elements already settled have time to dry properly. Once dry, a matte coat over the whole surface follows.
