A set of photo-etched metal parts in 1:48 scale for a kit of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero carrier fighter. Thin sheet holds a faithful thickness where a plastic part cannot be that thin.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero was among the best-known Japanese carrier fighters of the Second World War. The A6M5 version was given shortened wings with fixed rounded tips and exhausts led out individually along the sides of the forward fuselage. It was powered by an air-cooled radial engine, and the light structure of the airframe gave the machine a reputation as an agile aircraft with a long range.
Photo-etched parts of thin metal sheet, which complete or replace the details of a kit of this type in 1:48 scale. Metal keeps a faithful thickness even where injection-molded plastic has to be noticeably thicker for production reasons, so small features stand out with crisp edges once painted. Which parts the fret carries and exactly where on the model they belong is shown in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by snapping them out, otherwise the thin sheet will twist. Sand the remains of the attachment with fine abrasive paper. Make the bends over a bending tool or the smooth jaws of pliers, so that the edge comes out crisp and in one plane. They are bonded with super glue in a tiny amount, which is most easily dosed with the tip of a pin. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and spray on a primer; on a bare smooth surface the shade will not hold.
The set aims at a modeler who has already worked with the kit and wants to move the level of detail beyond the plastic parts. The kit itself, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
