A photo-etched set in 1:72 scale for a kit of the Grumman A-6E TRAM Intruder carrier-borne attack aircraft. The metal parts replace details that are necessarily thicker in plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman A-6E Intruder was a carrier-borne attack aircraft with its crew seated side by side under a common canopy and with folding outer wing sections for parking on an aircraft carrier. The abbreviation TRAM in the designation is tied to the sensor turret under the nose, which allowed the aircraft to make accurate strikes at night and in poor visibility as well. The silhouette with its deep fuselage and short nose is recognizable at once for this type.
Photo-etched metal parts meant for a kit of this type in 1:72 scale. In a small scale the difference between a plastic and a metal part shows most on features that should be paper-thin or pierced. The particular listing of the parts and the places where they belong is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Allow for the parts in 1:72 scale being really tiny. Have a sharp blade, tweezers with fine tips and good light ready, ideally a magnifier as well. Cut the parts off on a hard surface right at the attachment and sand the remainder. Make the bends over a bending tool; on the smallest features the smooth jaws of pliers will do. They are bonded with super glue, and a dose on the tip of a pin is usually more than enough. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and lay down a primer.
The set suits a modeler who is bothered in a small scale by the thickness of the plastic parts and wants to bring it down to a faithful measure. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
