A printed sheet with the German lozenge camouflage pattern in the four-color version for the lower surfaces of a model, cut for the large 1:32 scale. A continuous pattern of polygonal fields is sprayed only very laboriously in this scale, so the sheet saves long hours of masking and at the same time keeps the fields regular.
The printed fabric of German aircraft from the end of the First World War was made in two main forms, which differed in the number of shades in the pattern. The four-color variant works with a narrower range and comes across more calmly than the five-color one, but both were used side by side. The set for the lower surfaces has lighter shades than the patterns for the upper surfaces, because the covering under the wing was compared visually with the sky.
The shades are not rendered as a fresh factory finish but muted, with the texture of the fabric visible and with a slight irregularity of the overprint. The model thus gains the surface of worn fabric without your having to weather the area afterward.
It is a wet decal. Prepare the base smooth and glossy, because on matte paint a silvery veil arises under the film, and rather light, so that the pattern does not darken. Cut the sheet into strips following on from the seams of the covering, with a small overlap. Leave the piece in lukewarm water only until it can be moved, transfer it to a dampened place and press the water out with a soft cloth from the center outward. Adhesion into the engraved lines is helped by softener, and once dry, varnish the surface over.
The box holds the printed sheet. The model, paints, glue and softener are not included, unless stated otherwise.
