Rib tapes for lozenge 1:72 - two color types from Old Propeller. They complete the printed fabric on the wings of German aircraft of the First World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
Rib tapes were narrow strips of fabric with which the seams over each rib of the wing were covered on the aircraft of the period. On a model it is a detail that makes covered surfaces believable, because it breaks up a uniform area with a regular rhythm. The sheet offers two color types, so the modeler can choose according to the particular machine.
The German air service of the First World War used a factory print of polygons on the covering, which is called lozenge. The rib tapes were made either from the same printed fabric or from single-color cloth, most often in a bluish or salmon tone. The exact form differed by the maker of the airframe and by the production batch, which is why both solutions meet side by side in period photographs. Typically you will come across them with machines such as the Fokker D.VII, the Albatros or the Pfalz.
First cut the sheet into strips with a small margin and only then release them in water. Begin laying them from the root of the wing and align each tape by the engraved line of the rib, so that the line does not stray anywhere. In a small scale it helps to go over the surface with gloss varnish beforehand - a strip then catches no bubble of air anywhere. Cut off any excess reaching over the leading edge with a new blade only once it has dried.
The sheet is sold on its own, without a model and without other materials for the covering.
