This is a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks of kabuki paper, an accessory to the Airfix kit. The set itself contains no model and without the base kit you cannot use it. The masks serve to cover the glazing and other areas that are to stay clean after spraying accurately. At New Ware the Expert version is a more extensive variant of the same set than the basic one. The masks are cut for Lysander kits from Airfix.
The Westland Lysander was a British single-engine high-wing monoplane originally meant for army cooperation, reconnaissance and liaison. Thanks to automatic slats on the leading edge and large flaps it had an exceptionally short takeoff and landing, which made it the choice for night flights into improvised fields. The Mk.I and Mk.III versions differ from each other above all in the engine and in details of equipment. The characteristic canopy with its large number of frames is one of the things that slow the building of this type the most, and that is exactly where pre-cut masks pay off best.
First free the glazing of fingerprints and grease with lukewarm water and detergent and let it dry without wiping it with a cloth that sheds fibers. Lift the masks off the sheet with pointed tweezers or with the tip of a scalpel, seat them dry and only then press them down and run a blunt tool along the edges so that the edge sits perfectly. Lay the paint down in several very thin coats, because a heavy coat will creep under the edge far more readily than a thin one. Spray the interior shade of the frames first and only then the outer camouflage. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, pulling at an acute angle, not straight up.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, which it does not contain. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
