The sheet brings two sets of markings for the American Curtiss P-40B fighter as it looked in the Hawaiian Islands at the end of 1941. The printing is prepared for the small 1:144 scale and serves to finish a completed model. Two options mean two different forms of one type, between which you can choose as you please or according to which machine is missing from your display case.
The Japanese attack on the base of the Pacific fleet caught most of the American fighters lined up on the aprons of Wheeler and Bellows airfields, where they became easy targets. A few pilots nevertheless managed to take off from the auxiliary strip at Haleiwa and get into the fight. It was exactly these machines that gave the whole episode its one bright point, and they are still among the most frequently modeled aircraft of that day.
American fighters then wore a uniform dark olive finish on the upper surfaces and a light gray underside, with the national insignia still carrying a colored center. A model at this scale calls for restraint: heavy weathering looks coarse on an aircraft five centimeters long. It is better just to suggest the walked-on wing root and the exhaust streaks with a thin coat.
