Masks for the Jaguar GR.1 and GR.1A, 1:48 scale

A set of die-cut painting masks made of kabuki tape for a model of the SEPECAT Jaguar in the GR.1 and GR.1A versions, 1:48 scale. By its name it is cut for the Airfix kit number 11010 and it is offered in the grade designated Advanced. It is not a kit but an accessory for one.

The real subject

The Jaguar is a twin-engine ground-attack aircraft that came out of a joint British and French program. The British machines served as attack aircraft for low-level flight and carried a subdued but broken-up camouflage scheme. It is exactly on such a model that sharp boundaries between color areas and clean glazing pay off, because the silhouette itself is not especially striking and the model lives on the quality of its surface.

How to use the masks

• Apply the pieces to a clean, degreased surface before spraying.
• Lift the mask off the sheet with the point of a scalpel and lay it on dry, without stretching it.
• Press the edges down with a blunt point so that paint does not creep under them.
• Apply the paint in thin coats, straight onto the edge of the mask.
• Remove the mask shortly after the paint dries, pulling it back over the edge of the piece.

For builders of jet aircraft in 1:48 scale who want the glazing frames and the boundaries between areas to be accurate without trimming tape on the model by hand.
