The masks 1:48 F-4EJ Kai 302nd Squadron Retirement/Anniversary Paint Mask Set are intended for the memorial coloring of the Japanese Phantom in 1:48.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pair of sheets with the memorial motif of the Japanese Phantom from its last season. The masks are cut from a thin tape with slight translucency, so while laying them on you can see exactly where the motif sits. For the work you will need your own kit and paints.
The F-4EJ version was produced in Japan under license and it was the last large series of Phantoms of all. The upgrade designated Kai brought it a new radar, digital equipment and the ability to carry domestic armament, thanks to which the machines served long after more modern types had replaced them elsewhere. The last examples flew until the end of the second decade of this century and hundreds of photographers followed their departure. The farewell season drew spectators to the base from all over the world.
A smaller scale means thin lines and small patches, for which tweezers and a steady hand are needed. It pays to lay the parts from the largest to the smallest, to check them against the light as you go and to apply the paint in very thin layers. A heavy application forms a ridge under the edge, which after removal blurs otherwise sharp markings. Sharp light from the side helps to reveal places where the tape has not seated.
