The insignia set 1:48 Blue Angels F-4J Phantom II Insignia Paint Mask Set covers the lettering and marking of the aircraft of the American naval aerobatic team.
Responsibility details are not available.
An insignia masking set in thin removable tape. It contains the shapes of the lettering and marking which with this coloring run across the whole side of the fuselage and with a decal tend to be the greatest source of silvering. Sprayed yellow artwork on a blue finish holds its tone even after an overcoat.
At the beginning of the 1970s the Blue Angels team switched to the heavy twin-engine Phantom and became the only aerobatic formation to use this machine. The displays took place with an aircraft primarily built for combat at long range, which placed extraordinary demands on the flying and on fuel consumption. The era was ended by the oil crisis, after which the team moved to a more economical type. The combination of glossy blue and deep yellow remains one of the most impressive aircraft finishes of all. The diamond formation of four machines completed by a pair of solo pilots was among the loudest displays of its day.
The blue base must be smooth and fully cured, as otherwise it will be marked under the mask. Never spray yellow directly onto deep blue; it needs a white or light gray intermediate step. Take the masks off layer by layer and at a sharp angle, not straight away from the surface. You will get a sharper transition by thinning the paint more and spraying from a shorter distance at lower pressure.
