The set 1:48 Canopy And Wheels Paint Masks For Kinetic Harrier GR.1/GR.3 And AV-8A masks the canopy frames and the wheel hubs of the first Harriers.
Responsibility details are not available.
A compact set that handles the two places where a build can go wrong fastest: the broken-up framing of the canopy and the transition between the hub and the tire. The masks are cut from thin tape, they follow the curve of the teardrop canopy and after spraying they come off without a tacky trace.
The Harrier was the first series combat aircraft able to take off vertically and yet fly like a conventional jet. The credit for that goes to the Pegasus engine with its four rotating nozzles, which swiveled the whole thrust instead of using a separate lift unit. The British GR.1 version entered service at the end of the 1960s, and the later GR.3 added sensors in a lengthened nose. The United States Marine Corps bought an equivalent under the AV-8A designation and found in it an aircraft that manages without an airfield. A short run with the nozzles angled down proved more practical than a purely vertical takeoff.
Mask the frames before gluing the canopy to the fuselage, as the work is much more accurate with the part in hand. Spray the tire in a dark color over a masked hub and then finish the hub with a brush. Speed the removal of the mask up by warming the surface with lukewarm air, which softens the adhesive. If the tape ripples on a curve, lift it only at the fold and lay it down again; there is no need to move the whole piece.
