Masks of the earth camouflage of the F-104 Starfighter fighter from the time of its deployment in South East Asia, 1:72 scale contain a single sheet with ready cutouts.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set gives one sheet of shapes for the three-color pattern of the upper surfaces. The Starfighter has a slender fuselage and an exceptionally short wing, so the camouflage lies out on it differently from ordinary fighters and judging the boundaries freehand is thankless work. Pre-cut shapes in pliable tape solve that problem: you seat them by the engraving, press them down around the perimeter and the boundary comes out exactly where it belongs.
The F-104 was designed as a light interceptor built around a powerful engine and around a wing so thin that its leading edge had to be protected with a cover on the ground. In South East Asia it served in escort and patrol tasks, where its short range and modest load capacity, however, showed up as a weakness. The machines there were given an earth coloring, but they kept their national insignia in a clearly visible form, only in a smaller rendition than before.
Spray the lighter tones first and let the surface rest between them, as otherwise the paint will peel off along with the mask during removal. Around the thin areas of the wing use a lower pressure, so that the air does not lift the edge of a shape. Complete the remaining edges of the fuselage with the leftover strips from the sheet, which remain after the shapes have been popped out.
