A sheet of flexible masks for the desert camouflage of the Iranian F-5 in 1:48 scale. The boundaries between the fields arise by spraying, not by drawing freehand.
Responsibility details are not available.
A scheme with sharply separated color fields is thankless in hand work: a slight deviation is enough and the shape stops corresponding to the subject. This set brings the whole camouflage scheme as pre-cut shapes on one sheet. The material is a thin masking tape, semi-transparent, so you can see underneath it where you are laying it; after spraying it peels off and leaves no traces. The shapes fit the single-seat and the two-seat rendition, but the nose section differs, where masking of your own has to be added. The set does not cover the domestic Iranian derivatives with twin vertical tail surfaces.
The Northrop F-5 came about at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s as a light supersonic machine intended mainly for export and became one of the most widespread combat aircraft of its time. Iran took over a large number of them before 1979 and keeps them in operation to this day; from the original airframes came the domestic modifications known under the names Saeqeh, Kowsar and Azarakhsh. The sandy brown camouflage with sharp transitions is among their most typical forms.
You will achieve the best results by proceeding from the lightest shade to the darkest. Spray the light color over the whole airframe, let it cure properly and only then lay the masks. Hold the airbrush at right angles to the surface and dose the paint sparingly, so that it does not get under the edge. After taking the masks off it is worth going over the edges with a fine layer of clear varnish before the decals come in turn.
