The supports of the Morris Bofors C9/B vehicle lowered into the firing position, 1:35 scale. Resin parts for depicting the vehicle ready to shoot, with the arms resting on the ground.
Responsibility details are not available.
As soon as the crew had stopped and received the order to fire, it lowered the supporting arms to the ground, leveled the vehicle into a horizontal position, and only then could the gun work. Without that, the 40 mm weapon would have rocked the chassis with every burst and hitting a fast flying target would have been a matter of chance.
A vehicle with the supports extended tells a story on its own: it is not standing, it is fighting. In a scene this opens room for the crew at the weapon, crates of ammunition set out on the ground and wheel tracks leading into the position. The terrain under the vehicle therefore deserves more attention than usual, because that is exactly what the feet seat onto. Anyone who wants to show the vehicle on the move, by contrast, will reach for the sister variant with the arms raised.
It suits to sink the feet of the supports slightly into the base of the diorama, so that they do not hang above the terrain; it is enough to suggest a dimple in the material and to add dust around it. It is a good idea to try the joint assemblies dry before gluing and to try out the angle that suits the slope of the terrain. The shade is chosen according to the coat of paint of the vehicle; the feet are usually left worn down to bare metal. It is good to bring the edges of the joints out with a lighter tone, otherwise they are lost in shadow.
