The real subject

The Tupolev Tu-134 is a Soviet twin-engine jet airliner with the engines on the sides of the rear fuselage and with a T-tail. The A version is the lengthened form which made up the backbone of scheduled traffic in central and eastern Europe. The Hungarian company Malev was among its long-time operators and its aircraft were an ordinary part of traffic at European airports.

What the sheet contains

Decals in the colors of Malev for a model of the Tu-134A and the Tu-134A-3 in 1:144 scale. The sheet is prepared for the Zvezda kit, so the shape and the spacing of the printed items match its fuselage and wing. It is a classic waterslide decal: the item is cut out, dipped in water for a few seconds and then slid off the backing onto the model.

Application tips

• A decal belongs on a smooth glossy surface, so coat the area with gloss varnish in advance.
• Cut the item as close to the printing as possible, so that as little clear carrier film as possible is left.
• In the water only loosen the decal; do not let it float off the paper before you offer it up.
• Align the position with a brush, soak the excess water away and press the area down with a cotton swab.
• On rounded surfaces and transitions use a decal softener; the decal then settles with no creases.
• Secure the finished markings with a matte or semi-gloss varnish according to the final look.

Who it is for

For builders of airliners in a small scale who want a model in particular airline colors and are not satisfied with what is in the box. The application is not demanding, but it calls for patience with the long strips along the fuselage.
