What it is

Sidewalk surfaces with stone curbs in 1:160 scale, that is in N gauge. The surface has a pattern of small brick rows of the kind you know from the paved sidewalks of older towns. The curb is part of the section, so a natural step in height arises between the roadway and the sidewalk, which a hand-made sidewalk from a smooth sheet never has.

Field of use

A sidewalk is a detail nobody notices until it is missing: without it the houses seem to float above the roadway and the scene comes across as unfinished. A pattern of small brick rows suits older urban building, station buildings, the alleys between houses and squares alike. It comes into its own on an N gauge model railroad as well as on a standalone diorama, where it forms the transition between a building and a road. It also serves well as a surface for figures that would otherwise stand right in the roadway.

How to work with the accessory

• First just lay the sections down and plan the scene out; only then adjust them to the length needed.
• The base must be level and free of dust, or the sidewalk will lift at the edges and the joint will show.
• Glue with an adhesive suitable for the material of the section and for the base on which you are building the scene.
• Mask the joins between individual sections with filler, or hide them under a curb or greenery.
• You will unify the appearance with a dark glaze into the joints and a light dry brush along the edges.
